The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is a points-tested permanent residence visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, state or territory, or family member.

Streams

There are two streams:

Points-tested Stream

For skilled workers who score enough points and are invited to apply

New Zealand Stream

For New Zealand citizens who have lived in Australia for a specified period

Points Test

You must score at least 65 points to be eligible for an invitation. Points are awarded for:
